Busy Week Before Homecoming

This week has gone by really quickly and us in the sports business apologize for not keeping up on our blogs for our readers.



Monday the JV football team played Don Bosco and lost 21-14.



Tuesday the high school volleyball teams hosted Central City.

Homecoming?

There will be a homecoming but not Alburnetts. Tonight the Pirates play the Cardinal Comets. Kick off 1 minute away!

Brawling with the Wildcats

Thurday September 23 the high school volleyball teams traveled to Maquoketa Valley High School and did AWESOME! The Freshman-Sophomore team won in two games. The JV team won in two games. The varsity was neck and neck all their games but came out on top and won in three games.
Good Job Girls!

Tonight the football team is traveling to Cardinal High School and they are bringing thier fans. The high school will be sending a pep bus to the game

Cross Country places First at CPU

On Tuesday, September 21 the Alburnett Cross Country boys team placed first in class 1A out of 6 teams, below is the times & places:

Sweet Victory

Tuesday night the volleyball team did an awesome job defeating the Buchaneers. The Freshman-Sophomore team won all three games they could play in their 45 minute game. The JV also won all three of the games they played in their 45 minute game. And last, but not least, the varsity beat the Buchaneers in three games all by about 25-10.
Good Job Girls

In cross country news Alburnett's Jason McVay was only miliseconds away from 1st place and 10 seconds away from the school record. Keep it up Jason!

Lions Attack the Pirates

Monday nights JV football competition against the Lisbon lions did not go over good for the Pirates. The boys lost 19-6 and will hopefully get to regain thier pride in two weeks when they play Lisbon again Monday October 4.

Tonight the Pirate volleyball players will be hosting the East Buchanan Buchaneers. The Freshman-Sophomore team will start at 5:15. The Jr. High volleyball team will travel to East Buchanan tonight and represent Alburnett.

Sorry Jr. High Football players and Cross Country runners. you have kind of been ignored in these posts but we are trying to get more caught up with all the Pirate Sports.

Recap on the last week

Thursday September 16 the High School volleyball teams traveled to Springville. The freshman and sophomores we split up and played on two different courts. The freshman lost in three games and the sophomores won in two games (the sophomores also played a third game and won 20-13). The JV won in three games and the varsity lost in four games

Also that night the JV football team traveled to Waverly-Shellrock High School and lost 41-14

Saturday the varsity volleyball team went to lisbon and the JV team hosted a triangular tournament. the JV played Starmont (won in 3 games) and Lisbon (lost in 3 games). The varsity lost one game in their pool but came out of the tie and won the pool and beat Clear Creek-Amana in round one of bracket play but lost to West Branch (who they lost two in pool play) in three games.

The Cougars Raid the Volleyball Court

Tuesday September 14 the Cascade Cougars came down to Ablurnett for Fresh-Soph, JV and varsity competitions. The Fresh-Soph team beat the Cougars 2 games to 1. The JV team won in 2 games. The varsity fought hard and lost in 4 games against the Cougars.

The Alburnett Jr High also went and competed up in Cascade Tuesday and came back in high hopes

-Thursday the high school girls will travel to Springville for another tough game.
-Saturday if you are looking for something to do before the Iowa game the Varsity girls will be at Lisbon and the JV girls will be hosting a Triangular to Starmont and Springville
-The football team has a break this week but the JV Football team will head up to Waverly-Shellrock High School this Thursday.

Volleyball girls place second at Jesup

Today the girls placed second at the Jesup invitational. The results are below:

Alburnett beat Jesup 21-15 & 21-15
Alburnett beat North Linn 21-6 & 21-13
Alburnett beat Independence 21-12 & 12-15
Alburnett beat Don Bosco 282-26 & 25-21
Alburnett played Wapsie Valley tough in the championship but lost 25-21, 27-29 & 17-19

The next volleyball action is at home on Tuesday night against Cascade-come out and support our Pirates!

Great First Cross Country Meet!

Alburnett boys cross country team ran to 9th place out of 16 teams at Benton on Saturday, September 11th. Alburnett was the highest placing class 1A team at the invitattional. Results are below:

Little Rose Bowl in West Branch

After a couple lightening delays the game is most likely going to be rescheuled to Monday at 7:00. The true Pirate fans in their ponchos however are hoping we get to play it out. So far the game is estimated to start at 8:30. Everybody out there keep praying we get to play the game tonight

The JV won their game 26 to 0 and it started raining right before half time and hasn't stopped yet. The boys had a couple fumbles but got themselves together and didn't let the bears score.

Volleyball in the Lion's Den

Tuesday, September 7, at Lisbon the Pirate freshman and sophomore girls came out strong and won their matches in two games (matches are best of three to 21 with the third game to 15). The JV fought hard into the third game to get the Pirate victory.

The varsity matches are best 3 of 5 with the fifth game, if needed, to 15.

After a tough first game nerves are settled and the Pirates won game 1, 25-22.
Took a hard loss in game 2, 14-25.
Another hard loss in game 3, 23-25.
Pirates Win! game 4, 25-21 so on to game 5
Alburnett wins game 5, 15-13!!

Alburnett varsity volleyball won the match 3-2 congratulations girls....great win!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Congratulations to the Fresh-Soph volleyball team for getting first at the Prairie tournament on Saturday.
Thursday, September 9th at 6p.m. there is a JV volleyball triangular with Springville and Cascade at Alburnett.
Friday, September 10, is football at West Branch with JV starting at 5 and varsity approximately 7p.m. (30 minutes after JV games ends).

Pirate Volleyball off to a good start!

On Satuday, September 4 the Pirate volleyball team went 2-1 in pool play and then losing in the semifinals at the Vinton tournament.

Pirates record at 1-1

The second football game didn't have the same result as the first, but the game was close with the Pirates on the short side of the score with Iowa Valley 14-21. The Pirates record stands at 1 win and 1 loss as they enter their first district contest at West Branch on September 10th. West Branch has a rich football tradition, but the Pirates will be ready come next Friday.

Alburnett wins first football game!

The Alburnett Pirates downed the North Linn Lynx 33-6 on Friday, August 27th at home. The Pirate team rushed for over 300 yards with Mitch Harger leading the way with 188 yards on 11 carries. The defense was led by Sam Bowers with 15 tackles, 3 for a loss of 21 yards. The Pirates broke a 10 game losing streak with their next action at Iowa Valley in Marengo, then will start district play the next week.
