Colton lost 9-4, he will receive 6th place. Good job colton we are all so proud of you.

Just to let you all know some exciting news, Tyler and Chris were both finalists for the Mr.Wrestler award.

To let you all know first of all Dylan and Zach both won their second matches and went on to today and also that Dylan got pinned first round the other kid did not win by points

The Pirate crowd is still strong today and we are all ready for another day of wrestling at the biggest tournament in the state of Iowa, and man there are some strange hairdos that some of these boys have in celebration of getting here.

Well Pirates fans it has been too long since i have blogged last and you guys really need to be updated on the wrestling team. It is the end of the regular season and they are preparing for the postseason. the pictures posted here are from last weekend at our own tournament we we finally won it as team. Good Job Boys. This year we hosted Solon, Davis County, Vallley of Elgin, North Cedar, and English Valley. This weekend the boys traveled to East Buchanan for the 41st Tri-Rivers Conference Tournament. They made history there with Alex german being the eleventh person at in 41 years to be a four time conference champion and for the first in 41 years the Alburnett Pirates we the Tri-Rivers Champions. pictures of this tournament will be on the blog after this. Next week the Pirates will host Sectionals (IT STARTS @ 12:00 AND DOORS WILL OPEN @... TBA :) BUT BE EARLY) and the following week will be Districts at North Cedar ( we will give you more information on that tournament as it gets closer). It is going to be a great next few weeks and we want all the Pirate fans we can get so be there or BE SQUARE!!

Wrestling @ Highland and Basketball

This weekend the Pirate wrestlers traveled to Highland High School and competed with Columbus, Highland, Iowa City Regina, Muscatine, New London, Solon, Tri County, Washington, West Branch, West Liberty, and Wilton. The team did a great job getting 1st this week. Our own Tyler Shulista got Oustanding Wrestler for the third year in a row. The wrestlers will travel to North Linn High School Thursday and Ceadar Rapids Jefferson High School Saturday.

The basketball teams also had a busy day Saturday when the girls traveled to Bellevue and the boys hosted North Cedar. The teams will travel to Central City Tuesday and Cascade Friday.

First Week of 2011

The basketball teams traveled to Starmont Tuesday with the girls having a victorious night and the boys not doing so well. The teams will host Springville Friday night starting with the JV girls at 4:00 and then JV boys, varsity girls, and finally varsity boys. The girls will then travel to Bellevue Saturday afternoon meanwhile the boys will host North Cedar.

The Wrestling team traveled to Maquoketa Valley Thursday night and they had a very successful night against the Wildcats and the East Buchanan Buchaneers. They first wrestled the Buchaneers and beat them 4 5-24. Later they beat the Wildcats 61-15. The wrestlers will head to the Highland Riverside Tournament Saturday.

This last weekend the Pirate wrestling team traveled to Lisbon for their tournament. The Pirates did amazing and a couple of the wrestlers will have their names down in the books for 100 wins in their high school career.

As some of you may know. We have a couple of students who play on the Junior Roughriders High School Hockey team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As of now they are about half way through the season. This past Saturday they traveled to Dubuque and the Junior Roughriders won 4 to 0. Western Dubuque Duals

Today our wrestling plans were cut short due to weather problems. The teams that were suppose to be competing with us were Williamsburg, North Scott, Vinton-Shellsburg, Western Dubuque, Newton, Oregon (Illinios), and Maquoketa Valley. Vinton and North Scott couldn't make it to Epworth and Maq Valley and Oregon had to leave early because roads were getting bad. Because the weather started early in the morning W. Dubuque planned on runing three rounds and checking the weather. With only 6 teams the tournament was run as a round robin dual. First round we had Williamsburg, second round- Western Dubuque, and third round- Newton. The results are as follows:

Because of all the teams leaving or not making it all and finally wrestling it all out the teams had to go under certain criterias to see who really one and the Pirates came out on top and got the gold

I was kind of a slow night with lots of forfeits for the Pirates, the CC/Springville Wildcats only had five wrestlers and the North Linn Lynx didn't have a full line up either. The Pirates won to both teams making for a some what good senior night. The Pirates will head to Epworth Saturday for the Western Dubuque Duals.

Alburnett is playing a tough Waterloo Columbus volleyball team tonight. Just got a result from the first game Alburnett lost 12-25, but looking for a strong second game. Keep checking and will post information as it becomes available.

The second game was closer but we still were a little short 22-25.

Football Team Preparing for Playoffs

The Alburnett football team lost a close game with Wapello Friday, October 22nd, 26-22. The team has a quick turnaround on Wednesday, October 27th the Pirate football team will travel to Starmont for a 7p.m. playoff game. The Pirates end the regular season with a 4-4 record, which is a great improvement from last year. Go Pirates, lets get a win Wednesday.

Cross Country boys run at Districts

Our boys placed 4th at Starmont in the district cross country meet. Alburnett scored 157 points, but had to be the top 3 to run at state as a team.

Jason McVay placed 6th overall individually advancing to the state meet on October 30th. Great job JASON! His time was 17:45.

1st Round of District Volleyball

The had to fight hard all five games last night. The Pirates hosted the 1st round of districts against the North Cedar Knights. The Pirates lost the first game 32-30. The Second game was a Pirate vicorty 25-21. It was a Knights victory in the third game 25-12. Another Pirate victory in the fourth 25-23. And the Pirates finally win it in the fifth 16-14.

The Pirates will play again next Tuesday @ Waterloo Columbus and against Columbus

Conference Volleyball Tournament Updates

After a great football win last night 28-0 that qualifies the Pirates for the substate game. Also, makes the Wapello game this Friday big as it determines the #3 & #4 seeds. A Pirate win, we are #3 with a Wapello win we are #4 seed.

Pirate volleyball team travels to Cascade today, Saturday, October 16th to play in the tournament. The Pirates are grouped with Maquoketa Valley, Springville, North Linn & Central City for pool play with the top 2 advancing the tournament finals. The other group includes Cascade, EDCO, East Buc, Starmont & Monticello.

The Pirates lost the first match against Maq Valley 19-21 and 18-21. With Springville being the favorite in the Pirates group-just got a text showing North Linn beating Springville. So our group is still wide-open for us to make the top two and advance. Check back for updates through out the day as I receive results will get them posted. Go girls bounce back!

Starting last night this is a big week for Pirate sports! Keep the good scores coming in!

This Tuesday, October 18th at 7p.m. the Pirate volleyball team starts districts against a tough North Cedar team, but the game is at the Pirate gym-we will need everyone there cheering for a Pirate victory.

Alburnett football team evened their record at 3-3 with at 41-28 win over the Highland Huskies on Friday, October 8th. Next week Alburnett travels to Pekin with JV starting at 5p.m. and the varsity to start 30 minutes after the JV ends. GO Pirates!

Mitch Harger led the way on offense rushing for 251 yards on 26 carries and 4 touchdowns. Colton Martin & Jacob Sevening each had a rushing touchdown as the team rushed for 354 yards on the night. The defense was led by Colton Martin with 14 tackles, Mitch Harger with 11 and Colton Shadden with 10.

Tuesday night the volleyball team did an awesome job defeating the Buchaneers. The Freshman-Sophomore team won all three games they could play in their 45 minute game. The JV also won all three of the games they played in their 45 minute game. And last, but not least, the varsity beat the Buchaneers in three games all by about 25-10.

Lions Attack the Pirates

Monday nights JV football competition against the Lisbon lions did not go over good for the Pirates. The boys lost 19-6 and will hopefully get to regain thier pride in two weeks when they play Lisbon again Monday October 4.

Tonight the Pirate volleyball players will be hosting the East Buchanan Buchaneers. The Freshman-Sophomore team will start at 5:15. The Jr. High volleyball team will travel to East Buchanan tonight and represent Alburnett.

Recap on the last week

Thursday September 16 the High School volleyball teams traveled to Springville. The freshman and sophomores we split up and played on two different courts. The freshman lost in three games and the sophomores won in two games (the sophomores also played a third game and won 20-13). The JV won in three games and the varsity lost in four games

Also that night the JV football team traveled to Waverly-Shellrock High School and lost 41-14

Saturday the varsity volleyball team went to lisbon and the JV team hosted a triangular tournament. the JV played Starmont (won in 3 games) and Lisbon (lost in 3 games). The varsity lost one game in their pool but came out of the tie and won the pool and beat Clear Creek-Amana in round one of bracket play but lost to West Branch (who they lost two in pool play) in three games.

The Cougars Raid the Volleyball Court

Tuesday September 14 the Cascade Cougars came down to Ablurnett for Fresh-Soph, JV and varsity competitions. The Fresh-Soph team beat the Cougars 2 games to 1. The JV team won in 2 games. The varsity fought hard and lost in 4 games against the Cougars.

The Alburnett Jr High also went and competed up in Cascade Tuesday and came back in high hopes

-Thursday the high school girls will travel to Springville for another tough game.
-Saturday if you are looking for something to do before the Iowa game the Varsity girls will be at Lisbon and the JV girls will be hosting a Triangular to Starmont and Springville

After a couple lightening delays the game is most likely going to be rescheuled to Monday at 7:00. The true Pirate fans in their ponchos however are hoping we get to play it out. So far the game is estimated to start at 8:30. Everybody out there keep praying we get to play the game tonight

The JV won their game 26 to 0 and it started raining right before half time and hasn't stopped yet. The boys had a couple fumbles but got themselves together and didn't let the bears score.

Tuesday, September 7, at Lisbon the Pirate freshman and sophomore girls came out strong and won their matches in two games (matches are best of three to 21 with the third game to 15). The JV fought hard into the third game to get the Pirate victory.

The varsity matches are best 3 of 5 with the fifth game, if needed, to 15.

After a tough first game nerves are settled and the Pirates won game 1, 25-22.
Took a hard loss in game 2, 14-25.
Another hard loss in game 3, 23-25.
Pirates Win! game 4, 25-21 so on to game 5
Alburnett wins game 5, 15-13!!

Alburnett varsity volleyball won the match 3-2 congratulations girls....great win!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Congratulations to the Fresh-Soph volleyball team for getting first at the Prairie tournament on Saturday.
Thursday, September 9th at 6p.m. there is a JV volleyball triangular with Springville and Cascade at Alburnett.
Friday, September 10, is football at West Branch with JV starting at 5 and varsity approximately 7p.m. (30 minutes after JV games ends).

Pirate Volleyball off to a good start!

On Satuday, September 4 the Pirate volleyball team went 2-1 in pool play and then losing in the semifinals at the Vinton tournament.

The second football game didn't have the same result as the first, but the game was close with the Pirates on the short side of the score with Iowa Valley 14-21. The Pirates record stands at 1 win and 1 loss as they enter their first district contest at West Branch on September 10th. West Branch has a rich football tradition, but the Pirates will be ready come next Friday.

Alburnett wins first football game!

The Alburnett Pirates downed the North Linn Lynx 33-6 on Friday, August 27th at home. The Pirate team rushed for over 300 yards with Mitch Harger leading the way with 188 yards on 11 carries. The defense was led by Sam Bowers with 15 tackles, 3 for a loss of 21 yards. The Pirates broke a 10 game losing streak with their next action at Iowa Valley in Marengo, then will start district play the next week.
